It can be intimidating for patients if you ask them to follow a strict diet. Instead, let them work with their current way of life and make small modifications so that they don't feel cheated or hungry or frustrated.
- Slow down by using less oil or try alternative cooking methods such as steaming, roasting and grilling, which preserve the food flavours.
- Start your meal with some fibre. It help slow down the process of releasing sugar after meals.
- Ensure there is a protein rich dish in each of meal to ensure you feel full and satisfied.
- Protein bound with healthy fats are proven to help insulin sensitivity by controlling sugar spikes. Try wholes eggs, low fat milk and milk product such as cottage cheese, yogurt, non-vegetarian foods including fish and chicken.
- Reduce the gaps between your meals. Avoid larger meals and have a non carbohydrates snacks in between the two meals if you feel hungry.
