How food affects your personality

Food provides a dynamic energy force that influences every aspect of your life. Ayurveda identifies the positive and negative attributes of food, which can be categorised according to the their basic qualities. Food is seen as 'prana' - life force carrier.Based on its basic, inherent qualities, food is categorised as - Sattva (purity); Rajas (activity, passion, the process of change); and Tamas (darkness, inertia)

Sattvic food

It's always freshly cooked and simple. It consists of foods that are closest to their natural form such as milk, fresh fruits as well as dried fruits, unrefined whole grain cereals, and fresh vegetables, except garlic, onion and chives.

The Sattvic Personality
A person who follows the sattvic way of eating is known to be clear minded, balanced and focused.

Rajasic Food

This type of food is fresh but heavy to digest. This diet is recommended for those who indulge in heavy physical activity. It includes meat, fish, eggs, and chicken as well as whole pulses and dal( not sprouted), hot species like chillies, pepper, and all vegetables.

The Rajasic Personality
The rajasic diet makes a person long for sensual stimulation. They are usually aggressive and full of energy. They are interested in four 'P' - Power, Prestige, Position and Prosperity and are also in control of their lives.

Tamasic Food

This includes all foods that are not fresh, unnatural, overcooked, stale or processed. They include all foods made from refined flour(maida), pastries, pizza, burgers, chocolate, soft drinks, rumali roti, naan, stimulants like tea, coffee, tobacco, intoxicants like alcohol, wines etc. Most canned and preserved food like jam, jellies, pickles and fermented foods are also include in this category. All spicy, salty, sweet and fatty foods are a part of this diet.

The Tamasic personality
Tamas brings about stagnation in an individual's life and degeneration in their health. Such individual suffer from intense mood swings, insecurity, desires, cravings and are unable to deal with other in balanced way. They have little regards for the welfareof others and tend to be very self-centered.

Sattvic, Rajasic and tamasic are more than just qualities in food, they are a way of life. It can then be argued that how we choose to live, think, or treat others and what we choose to eat corresponds with all that we receive in life.
